At the mention of the poster he had just put up not so long ago, Komui’s interest was caught and he carefully examined the young student in front of him. He didn’t look familiar, certainly wasn’t in any of his classes anyway and if the scientist had ever spotted him on campus before, then he had forgotten.
Truth be told, even if it was their first time meeting, he was still glad to have a volunteer who showed such enthusiasm although he couldn’t help but wonder if the student knew what he would be in for.
Komui wanted to say yes then and there but even if no other volunteers were forthcoming, he should at least suggest a trial period to see if the arrangement was suitable for the both of them. As happy as he was to have an assistant, he should at least give the other an opportunity to change his mind.
“How about this, you can be my assistant for a week to see how you find it. If you’re happy to remain as such after that, then the position is yours”
Kyouhei let out an internal sigh of relief at the revelation that he hadn’t just eaten up the time of someone uninvolved completely, and thanked Lady Luck for once in his life, instead of cursing her.
Still, business was still technically going on, so he tried curbing the childish excitement being right wrought in him.
“Seems agreeable to me!” The brunet thrust his hand forward, feeling rather self-assured after his burst of uplooking luck. “A pleasure to work with you… for this week, that is! My name is Kyouhei.”
Mika was suddenly thrown off pace when the other stopped his whole motion -and intention to start a fight- in order to coo at Mika’s very own companion.
The Mimikyu, as terribly shy as his owner, proceeded to recoil over itself, head dropping slightly by the side and whole body retreating over to Mika’s legs in seek of protection.
“Whaddaya care where i found ‘em?” he asked defensively, a dramatic frown as he tried to act tougher for the sake of his scared little friend “And ‘course they’re in top notch! They’re my best friend, ’course I had to take care of ‘em”
The sound of fabrics rustling made double colored eyes look up and check the Pokemon that was now eyeing him suspiciously. Now, he couldn’t deal with people, but Pokemon were a completely different story.
“Howdy~yer a pretty one, ain’tcha?”
Oh crap, did Kyouhei accidentally insinuate something bad? He only meant- well, he’d explain and all would be well… hopefully, at any rate. The brunet took a deep breath and smiled upwards, trying to make himself seem like less of a threat.
“Sorry, I just meant- not a lot of Pokemon do well out of their natural habitat. I didn’t mean to imply you didn’t care about them or weren’t a good caretaker.”
The sight made his heart warm, actually, because he’d had to switch out a lot of his old team for health reasons when he left for Sinnoh, only daring to bring his Superior along.
Kyouhei watched with interest the change in the other trainer’s expression as his main popped out their head, and he gave them a small scratch just behind their head to calm them down.
“Would you like to hold them? Ivvy likes being held by people, as you can probably guess. Just a big flesh noodle.” As if to agree with Kyou, Ivvy (the Superior) gathered themselves up onto the top of his shoulders and craned their head closer to the other trainer.
“I’m Kyouhei - Kyou!” He quickly changed his tune, remembering that he was trying to be lowkey and not gather attention to himself. “Call me Kyou. Nice to meet you…?”
